Speaker Training Tip:  Using NLP

One of the most powerful techniques that I’ve learned to harness in my professional career has been the application of NLP – Neurological Language Programming. This powerful technique allows me to integrate persuasion and suggestion in a very modest way but with fantastic results.

NLP is not about hypnosis or trying to “trick” people in to something they don’t desire. In point of fact, the most effective NLP techniques relate to uncovering layers of our psychology that inhibits us from truly experiencing and receiving what we actually desire. We’re trained from a young age to conceal our hopes, conceal our fears, conceal our dreams, and conceal our desires. There’s a long list of people who will tell you that you cannot have something or you cannot achieve something, and if you hear that frequently enough, you might come to believe it.

Harnessing NLP in a positive and effective way requires understanding the subtleties of the mind. You have to anticipate the closed reactions that your audience might have to your suggestions, but make the maneuvers consistently so that the impression is all that remains.

I have spent the better part of the past decade learning and refining my NLP strategies, and I’m constantly testing and learning new techniques.
